Friends and neighbors,
After careful consideration, I have decided to run for Tacoma City Council Position 5. Government can only be as good as those we elect to serve and I want to make sure we have a council that looks out for us the way our neighbors look out for each other. I bring a unique and fresh perspective to the council while advocating for what South End families need to be strong. Public service is incredibly rewarding, and I believe bringing civic and non-profit experience to the council will be beneficial to our community. We need a true advocate for our priorities who understands the unique concerns we have south of 56th street.
I am honored that virtually every South End community leader is supporting me in this race. Leaders we know and trust such as Representatives Steve Kirby and David Sawyer, former State Senator Rosa Franklin and County Councilmember Connie Ladenburg.
In 2008, I organized in our community to help elect President Obama and fell in love with the City of Destiny. The fifth district contains some of our city’s most hard working families who need someone to represent their values on the council. I have a strong passion for social justice and currently serve on the City of Tacoma’s Human Rights Commission. I am not a stranger to the political process. I worked in the U.S. House of Representatives in our nation’s capital, and I am currently a legislative aide in Olympia for the Washington State House of Representatives. We need a leader on the council who can balance addressing daily problems and help craft a forward thinking a strategic plan that represents our community’s values.
We must invest in Tacoma’s future and ensure the South End has equal opportunity to a better world for our children. With your support, I can be the voice the fifth district deserves.
